Proposal from scott
2020
Dear sir/ madam I’m writing on behalf of Brogan Vandenio. He’s informed me that it is a mandatory requirement to provide evidence of his production placement, so that he can be successfully referred, for his LOA application. My name is
Scott
Coffey, I’ve been working in the Film & tv industry for over 20 years. I have attached my bio here. I was an actor for many years, working with David Lynch on several of his movies including Mulholland Drive and recently the last season of Twin Peaks. He’s very much a mentor to me and helped me get into directing which is what I mostly do now. My first movie Ellie Parker was in competition at the Sundance Film Festival and stars Naomi Watts. Since then I have been writing features and TV series and have directed two other films, Adult World that stared John Cusack and Emma Roberts and a new film called Rhino that Netflix acquired for release next spring. I’m always find it super rewarding to help out young filmmakers when I recognize talent and I’m more than happy to help Brogan as I think he’s really talented. Brogan and I met in Berlin when he was filming for his 2nd year exhibition piece titled Silencio. I’m impressed by his process and dedication to film. We shared much in common & I found his practice within DOP, conceptual narratives intriguing. Tait has a very strong love for Avant Garde cinema and seems to already have a very strong eye and an interesting voice as a filmmaker. There is still so much for him to learn and I think that really can be only gleamed from on set practice. I believe after his work placement , he will only adapt this further onto the foundation he studies within. I’m planning on shooting my new film here in Berlin in early October and I’m hoping I can offer Tait a position in the camera crew. We will be shooing in and around Berlin for a few months. His assistance will be roundtripped as a BTS Photographer, lighten assistant. From what I understand Tait has had conversations with tutors from his department that he has felt the urge to take a step back before proceeding into his 3rd year of academic studies. He has also approached me for advice, my input; I do not think it would be beneficial for him as an artist or for the university, to further his academic studies during these times. This is a student who could possibly give a great example of studio collaboration, especially after working on my feature. When perusing video, you cannot be a solo artist. Any kind of filmmaker needs a team & facility to access. Brogan has mentioned that the stow building has remarkable new studios. Much technical methods will be taught on our sets that includes green screen & lighten. This placement will be long hour work, my feature is not the only open project that Tait will be work on. Brogan has mentioned a man named David Sillars to his lecture's; David is like a guardian to brogan, that contributes as a narrator or sometimes actor in his work. Before & after he finishes his time with me, he will assist for David's new covid 19 film. From conversations I see that their relationship is very important. If brogan does not get granted this leave of absence, not only will he miss out on the opportunity to work with my production, he will also feel dramatically restricted in specific spaces since David & his landlord Patricia are in the venerability category. All I wish is for the Glasgow school of art’s administrations, to really consider and take on these situational matters, to what’s best for this student. Thanks sincerely
Scott
